Compensation grouting

This technique is an essential complementary specialist measure in tunnel construction.

Soletanche uses compensation grouting to reduce surface settlement during tunneling works. Compensation grouting prevents soil decompression caused by excavation works. This is achieved by injecting precise and calibrated quantities of grout between the tunnel and the structures that need to be protected.

Applications of compensation grouting

  • Wherever there is a risk that tunnel construction may cause deformation of sensitive structures.
  • All tunneling methods: using TBM machines, traditional methods (e.g. NATM), etc.
  • Remedial programs – provides protection to existing structures in the event of unforeseen incidents during TBM progress.

Environmental efficiency of compensation grouting

  • The use of Soletanche EXEGY low-carbon concrete significantly reduces the carbon footprint of delivered projects.
  • Design optimization by Soletanche engineering teams allows material consumption to be reduced, for example through alternative solutions such as unreinforced diaphragm walls, further minimizing environmental impact.
  • Extends the service life of structures and reduces settlement of adjacent facilities.

Advantages of compensation grouting

• Tailored for tunnel construction – improves tunneling safety in urban conditions.

• Precise deformation control.

• Reduces settlement of adjacent structures.

• Minimal impact on the surroundings and protection of existing structures.
