The expansion of the Jagiellonian University Medical College campus in Cracow is a project of strategic importance for Polish science and medical education. The advanced geotechnical and foundation engineering solutions delivered by Soletanche Polska will ensure the durability and safety of the entire development, whose general contractor is WARBUD and investor is the Jagiellonian University Medical College.
A Modern Campus for Future Medical Professionals
The project, entitled “Modernization and Expansion of the Existing Jagiellonian University Medical College Campus in Kraków-Prokocim – Stage I,” includes the construction of Educational and Administrative Building “B” and a connecting structure linking it with the newly completed Laboratory Building “A.” The entire development is being built on Medyczna Street, at the heart of the Prokocim campus.
The new complex is not only additional educational and laboratory space – it is also a significant step toward strengthening the position of the Jagiellonian University on the European scientific stage.

Foundations – The Key to Stability
Soletanche Polska’s role in this ambitious project has focused on the foundation works for Educational and Administrative Building “B” (over 22,000 m²) and the connector spanning Medyczna Street (1,528 m²).
The scope of works included:
- construction of diaphragm walls with a total length of 312 linear metres and depths ranging from 8 to 12 metres;
- installation of 12 foundation barrettes using diaphragm wall technology, designed to transfer loads from the connector between Building “A” and the new Building “B”;
- construction of 77 CFA (Continuous Flight Auger) foundation piles, forming a key component of the load-bearing foundation system;
- excavation support through the installation of 27 temporary ground anchors and 7 steel struts, ensuring structural stability throughout the construction phase.
These advanced foundation engineering solutions guarantee not only the safety of the construction process but, above all, the long-term durability and stability of the entire structure.
“The expansion of the Jagiellonian University Medical College campus in Cracow is another project that we are delivering in cooperation with WARBUD S.A. Previously, we were responsible for foundation works for, among others, the Scientific and Educational Centre and Cadaver Training Facility at the Clinical Hospital in Otwock, as well as projects for the Medical University of Warsaw.
WARBUD, like us, is part of the VINCI Group – one of the world’s leading construction companies – which enables us to collaborate based on shared standards and extensive experience”, emphasizes Agnieszka Jankowska-Tylka, Site Manager at Soletanche Polska.

Prestige and Responsibility
The Jagiellonian University Medical College is the largest medical sciences centre in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. The expansion of the Prokocim campus is a strategic investment that will not only increase research and teaching capabilities but also contribute to the advancement of medicine on an international scale. The project required close cooperation among all stakeholders: the investor, Jagiellonian University Medical College; the general contractor, WARBUD; and the technology partner, Soletanche Polska, responsible for the geotechnical and foundation engineering works.
