The modernisation of railway line No. 201 – one of the key infrastructure projects in the Pomeranian region – is underway. The 128-kilometre route connecting Maksymilianowo and Gdynia is undergoing comprehensive reconstruction, which will transform it into a modern, double-track and electrified railway line. The investment will increase the capacity of the connection and significantly reduce travel times.

As part of the project “Works on the Kościerzyna – Gdynia section”, Soletanche Polska is carrying out specialist geotechnical and foundation works along a section of more than 28 kilometres between Somonino and Gdańsk Osowa. The works are being performed under a contract delivered by a Consortium comprising Pomorskie Przedsiębiorstwo Mechaniczno-Torowe sp. z o.o. (Consortium Leader), Trakcja S.A. and Zakład Robót Komunikacyjnych – DOM sp. z o.o., commissioned by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.

Specialist retaining structures in Żukowo and Rębiechowo

The scope of Soletanche Polska’s works includes the construction of advanced retaining structures at two key infrastructure facilities: SO-07 in Żukowo and SO-11 in Rębiechowo.

In Żukowo, the Soletanche Polska team is constructing an excavation support system using VDW secant pile technology, with a total length of approximately 950 metres. The overall length of the installed piles will reach around 16 kilometres. Parts of the structure will be additionally secured with an anchoring system to ensure the required stability and durability of the construction.

The works also include slope protection using soil nails and geosynthetics. Soletanche Polska is also responsible for preparing the design documentation for the pile caps and the reinforced concrete finishing wall. The current progress of works on this task is approximately 60%.

The second key location is Rębiechowo, where Soletanche Polska will construct reinforced concrete retaining walls reaching up to 9 metres in height. The structures will be founded on piles up to 18 metres long. The scope of works also includes ground improvement beneath railway embankments using displacement piles.

As emphasised by Marcelina Ancypa, Site Engineer at Soletanche Polska:
“Carrying out these works requires the highest level of execution precision and extensive experience in delivering geotechnical solutions under challenging site conditions. Safety, stability and ensuring the long-term durability of the future railway infrastructure are of key importance.”
